Just came across this discussion. I lived in Shanghai for just over one year--moved out last November. Last summer, just weeks before the Olympics, I suddenly had trouble getting onto various gay websites. The IP provider I had suddenly would not allow me on "xtube" and a few other lovely porn sites. I could not get on "gayromeo", but learned from a friend I could access it by "planetromeo", sorta a "sister site" which the government hadn't banned. Knowing how creative Chinese guys can be, I'm sure if they ban most sites, they will find alternative means to access the "information" they are seeking.

There is so much irony living in China! You can not easily get to a porn site, but any Hollywood movie in theaters is available as a dvd for a dollar or two on most any street corner. I think it will change in time, but may be a long long time. I'm sure horny Chinese guys will find a way to access the "information" they desire! :-)
