G-Rated Men For Men

G for Gay, G for Global. No smut, no obscenity, minimal violence ^^

What books are you reading now?

I just picked up the Sookie Stackhouse novels (HBO's True Blood is based on them).

I also am reading Dancer from the Dance (I've been told it's a gay classic).

Gah! I love True Blood <3

Anywho... I finished reading the Gossip Girl books yesterday just because I was utterly obsessed with the show and I just picked up "When Will There Be Good News?" It's a pretty cool thriller book.

i just finished reading 'Good as Lily' - a graphic novel by Asian-American author Derek Kirk Kim. It was nice, talks about a girl who on her birthday sees her 6 year old, 29 year old, and granny selves at the park and how it's going to change her life. blah blah

but now our professor asked us to read 'Kickboxing Geishas' which is about the modern women of Japan, their struggles on not being 2nd class citizens in Japan and etc. it's interesting, and now on page 6. hahaha :D

Moby Dick by Herman Melville
Yea, I know I know, I work at bookstore and read too much. Book's very homo since Ishmael (the main character) shares his bed with some native who marries him (kind of like Kyou Kara Maou) but yea...

Currently juggling:
Twilight Watch, by Sergei Lukyanenko
Book 3 in the Watch Tetralogy . Book 1 is Night Watch. The series is a modern fantasy story set in Moscow, and deals with the morality of supernatural beings (called "Others") living in secret among us. The first two books were made into movies...but I think they lose a lot in the transition. I definitely recommend the books to any sci-fi/fantasy fans (Lukyanenko's pacing kiiind of reminds me of Joss Whedon's work), or anyone looking for a nice casual read.

The Bonfire of the Vanities, by Tom Wolfe
Written in 1987, it deals with the slow decline and "comeuppance" of New York's alleged elite. It's not as easy for me to read as Twilight Watch, but it's still a smooth ride. It's definitely got a little more substance, if that's what you're looking for.

Recently finished:
Song of Susannah, by Stephen King
Book 6 in the Dark Tower series. More fantasy stuff. King takes the traditional swords-and-sorcery quest and dresses it up like a spaghetti western. Looooove it. Anyone looking to break into the series MUST read the first two books; the very first book is pretty awkward to get into because it doesn't give you a whole lot of information--the plot hits the ground running and you've just got to try and keep up. Book 2 clues you in a bit more, and so I feel it's more compelling. I'm totally hooked on the series. Even if you're not a fan of King's stuff (ie. horror novels), definitely give this series a shot.

I'm just finishing up "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin; really interesting and inspiring story of one man's mission to educate children, especially girls, in northern Pakistan.

Up next is "In Arcadia" by Ben Okri.

I also recently read a "Densha Otoko" manga. It was cute and romantic.
