G-Rated Men For Men

G for Gay, G for Global. No smut, no obscenity, minimal violence ^^

I don't understand why my fellow young gay guys are so interested in sexy female vocalists.

Clearly we don't want to make love to them. We're gay males.

So, I guess many gay guys identify with sexy female vocalists?

I can halfway understand loving sexy girls. I can halfway understand identifying with sexy girls. But, for the most part, I like male music in a man's men's world. Is that weird? In fact, I identify much more easily with straight men than I do with straight women. Not always. Sometimes I can and do identify with straight women. But not so often.

To be honest, I'm really surprised how much girl-i-ness shows up in our Top 20. It's like... girl, girl, girl, girl, girl.

If I wanted to be like a girl I would get a sex change.

So, my question: Why girlie music?

IDK why they like it either. I like men to sing to me or I like OLD women to sing OLD songs because it reminds me of my japanese grandmother. In my opinion girls suck in just about every way possible, besides traditional sheltered girls who don't act like the bitchy modern day chicks, and I'll stick with my guys for everything! Girls are just bitches and I don't wanna hear their nagging voices in music because I get enough of it at home. MEN SHOULD STICK WITH MEN!

Hehe. I don't know that I can define my comment further. It's just an odd impression I'm getting from our Top 20. I do have some females in my life and I love them. But, honestly, when it comes to music I identify 100% male.

Also, if there are any transgendered boys reading, I hope my comments won't have offended you. I know that a certain percentage of males are "girlie" by nature. And that's beautiful.

But surely the G Network population isn't skewed to the girlie side, are we? Or, maybe gay culture has grown girlier and girlier over time(?)

my issue with girls in music isn"t over who is singing but the kind of music they sing. i do listen to more male singers than female but as i said it has more to do with the type of music they singers perform. i absolutely love nina simone, tina turner (think back to when she was with ike) bjork, roisin murphy, laetitia sadier of stereolab and karen O of the yeah yeah yeahs. but, what i don't get is the whole gay worship of bette, madonna, britney, beyonce etc. their music just does nothing for me and i don't find them remotely "fabulous".
simply not enjoying music because its sung by girls i also don"t understand. so maybe we're meeting half way??

Ok... seems like no one looks at it the same way as I do.

For me the reason it has to do with the fact that a girl (straigh one) will sing about love to a male man, and we gay guys, would want / sing about males, right?
So it makes sence if we think about it that way.
But yes, I find it really weird sometimes as for why do gay man identify with female singers.

BTW. Also I just noticed that I have a lot of female singers in my playlist n_nU, and it makes sence to me, since I love balads and usually females have a wider variety of ballads than male, But I love male ballads too.

Yes, yes, FlamingLips... Right on, brother. Female vocalists of the recent past (Nina, Tina, Billie...) were expressing such a wide range of human emotion that their vocalizing naturally included part of the masculine (or at least neutral) range of feeling. Heck, the recently departed and much loved Nina even sounds kinda masculine, don't you think? Those who don't know her should check out Turn Me On, which you can hear on my page. Please, please, please give it five stars!

The new so-called R+B ladies seem to confine their emotional range to a much narrower space. Something like "I'm a sexy bitch." I'm like: Who cares?

I guess the flipside of my question is: Why do rock tracks get voted out of our Top 20 so quickly? I've added some boy music, but there doesn't seem to be a popular appetite for it in our network. I don't understand why.

My dear friend Makub at least sees it as an interesting topic. I very much appreciate it!

However, a question remains: You see it as OK to forget that it's a female singing about men. But why not listen to straight male singers and forget that they're singing about girls? I guess it's equal either way, but...

I don't exactly see it as ok, but it works like that in spanish language cos' is more specific in a word you can say if it is a female or a male, one or many, today or yestarday or tomorrow, and so on.... and yes, it works both ways for male singers and forget that are directed to girls, but let0s just say that in the case of a female singer you don't have to "imagine" nothing, it goes like that.

At the end, I'm not trying to impose my opinion over noneone, is just my point of view... and how I see it.

It's okay if you can't explain exactly. I can't explain my way of listening, either. Basically, though, as soon as it's an extremely "chick" song, it immediately loses the chance of being a male-male song. ¿Eso tiene sentido?

as to the issue of like women because they sing about men; i don't see that as important myself. i think if a song is done passionately and with true conviction then i am still emotionally moved by the performance whether its being sung about a guy or a girl. i think the universal desire to be with someone is stronger than that constraint. a personal example for me would be all of the "in the aeroplane over the sea" album by neutral milk hotel. i admit it isn't everyone's cup of tea but jeff mangum sings with such honesty (about love songs to anne frank no less) that it rips my heart out every time i listen to that album.

and kim.... i feel your pain about your musically selections. you and i have very similar overlapping tastes and i never could find me a man who loved the same music as i did (well gay ones anyway. damn breeders!)

Our tastes obviously do overlap. I have "aeroplane over the sea," too...

But, I prefer men's vocal to girl's♪ cuzI can't sing girlie song, I don't have so high tone...
The song which is able to sing for me, I would rather love^^
